If you do decide to do it yourself, get a good book on the subject with good clear pictures and then have a gunsmith do a safety check on it unless you are familiar with doing it yourself. Going slow and constantly checking, most people will do fine. Drop-ins are a breeze and anyone that can handle some basic tools can do them. 1911's aren't hard to work on, but get the Kunhausen book for reference. Once you work through one, the parts make sense and are easy to assemble/disassemble.
