My take on powder coating vs painting is; Powder coating is stronger/harder to scratch than paint but is more expensive and harder to patch up if you chip or scratch the powder coating off. Some people have told me your only real option for scratched up powder coated rims, is to get them re-powder coated. WebFeb 18, 2011 · 494 Posts. #2 · Feb 17, 2011. I would powdercoat them. Even if you had to pay someone else to do it for you it should cost that much and the finish as you already know, is much more durable than paint.
